Good evening. I have acquired a laptop computer that I am trying to connect with my minitower. I have added the Windows component for setting up peer to peer networks to both computers. I used a parallel port cable to physically link the two machines, and I was able to get the laptop to connect with the minitower. However, I was not able to see files on one machine from the other. I was also not able to share an internet connection so I could get software updates for the laptop. What other things should I be looking at? (As much detail as possible would be good; I have gone through a labyrinth of Windows and dialog boxes. Not to mention web pages.)

Thank you in advance.

These should help you out. Although, you may just want to get a router with a switch as a better solution.
