Problems responding to AOL mail.

I have a friend that sent me a msg for the first time..when I went to respond thru my yahoo account I recvd this failure daemon..SMTP; 550 NOT ACCEPTING MAIL FROM

I think it maybe on the AOL side..can someone shed any light on this for me?

The Yahoo mail server has probably been barred by AOL's spam managing system for a certain period of time. There are a lot of aliases that use the Yahoo mail address by spammers.

You can probably try again later or get a different mail account that doesn't use Yahoo.

I finally got fed up with all the spam that I get through Yahoo aliases as well and finally added the domain to my spam filter as well.

Did you not get a reason on the failure daemon message. It should tell you the reason it isn't accepting the mail. Not just say "NOT ACCEPTING MAIL FROM... "

AOL now requires you to have a reverse DNS in order to send mail to their accounts. It may be that Yahoo mail does not have that.

I'm in Canada and some ISPs provide the reverse DNS for corporate customers at no charge others charge up to $45 US per month. I think the ISPs have figured out that more and more mail servers are going to require a reverse DNS and its an easy way for them to make extra money.

I did a key word search on google and found that both of you
answered my questions.

Tried several of my email accounts and found one that actually worked. Yahoo and Hotmail..needless to say did not work
