I have a laptop with XP installed, and another computer upstairs with WIN ME installed... both these computers are connected to my 'old' pc (a pII 333 w/256MB ram) which is connected to the internet via cable modem... this 'old' computer is my "server" and has a printer attached...(lexmark z22) this computer uses win ME as well and uses icshare to share the internet.. several files/folders are also shared and the printer is also set to shared...

i have had no problems yet connecting to shared folders or files.. BUT when trying to print from my laptop (running xp) i get a "A StartDocPrinter call was not issued."

i can install and connect to the printer on the network.. the printer works fine when printing from the "upstairs" computer
and it works fine when printing from the "server"
and i can print when i connect the printer directly to the laptop...(and use the direct driver)
but trying to print a document or picture from the laptop with xp through the server... gets me that error....

to make this even more perplexing to me, i can print when connected to my friend's printer via the network... so i know it's not my network settings... which is the same type of printer (a lexmark z32)... the only difference is that her computer has win98 se on it..

do i need to install the xp drivers on the "server" with win ME? and if so how do i do that?

any help or suggestions would be appreciated as i do not have office installed on the other computer and would like to print out some documents without having to move the printer where the laptop is...
