We have a user who is having weird results when trying to print from Word. She can open a document and see everything as it should appear, including the header and footer info. But when she goes to print preview (or straight to print), the text in the header disappears completely. There's a small graphic that remains and will print correctly. In other documents lines and some text boxes disappear on printing but other text boxes do not. I'm completely baffled as to what might cause this. Does anyone have any ideas?

This may sound dumb, but...
Could possibly any of the items that disappear be "grouped" using the Draw toolbar? If so, ungroup them and then print.

In Word 2000, we frequently had text (within text boxes) and line drawings to disappear after grouping them.

Ah, nice one dcompto. Curious now...

Thanks for the response, dcompto. No there's no grouping set.

Apparently it's not a problem with the document, we've found that other people can print it just fine. And it's not specific to the machine, I just tried logging in to her machine as a different user and it printed correctly. So I guess it's something in her profile. I tried recreating the normal.dot but that didn't fix it. It's pretty frustrating, I'm not sure what else to try.

Are you displaying and printing Hidden Text (Tools > Options > View tab and Print tab respectively)?

Enjoy,
Tony

I didn't see Tony's post in time to try it unfortunately but we were finally able to get it to work by recreating the user's Windows profile. I still don't know what caused the problem exactly but at least she's back up and running.
Thanks,
Shauna
