First off, Dell does not ship there systems with the primary drive as cable select. It sounds like you are trying to install a hard drive you purchased. Am I correct? If this is so, the 60gig jumper needs to be set to master. Generally there is a diagram for you to determine the proper setting. Second, is this hard drive not seen at all in the POST? If not check two things, 1. The cable you have the 60 gig hard drive connected to is connected on the cable that is furthest from the systemboard, in otherwords one end connects to the systemboard and the other to the hard drive. 2. Check to make sure you are using the correct IDE slot on the systemboard. One will be stamped on the board usually in white letters. On the 4100, it is listed as PRI IDE and SEC IDE. The one closet to the floppy contoller is the PRI IDE.You need to be connected to PRI IDE. There should really be no reason to believe you have a driver issue with a 60gig. But you can go to dell.com and tpye in your asset tag and do to downloads and it will have all the drivers needed for the hard drive. Last thing, make sure at no time you have the original hard drive that came with the system is connected in anyway, unless you have it slaved. But it is better not have it connected at the time. Just one less problem you have to look at in trying to resolve this issue.I hope this helps. Good Luck. Kelly Korf
