I'm trying to install the Adaptec ASPI upgrade on one of our Win2k Servers, for the dvd drive i've just installed in it, and keep getting the message

"this utility requires Administrator rights in order to run. PLease log off, log on as a user with local Administrator rights, and then run this utility again."

I do this when logged in as Administrator. Where's the setting i can change to make sure i have "local administrator rights"?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Shepherd

check that the account you are currently logged into is listed under Builtin->Administrators group in the Active Directory Users and Computers for a domain controller or the Local Users and Groups->Groups folder under the Systems Tools of the Computer Management app of your stand-alone or member server.

pls note that sometimes, when we add a stand-alone server to a domain, the Adminstrators group of the local computer is not updated automatically to include the Domain Admins group of the domain. when this happens, you must explicitly add the Domain Admins group to the local Administrators group of the new member server,

i did what you said in the first paragraph, but don't quite follow the second.

The account is added to all the groups on the domain. (and the server i'm using is the domain controller).

it still brings up the same message as before, after logout/login. Do i need to restart the server to update these settings?

You must be logged in as a local admin. I had the exact same problem when trying to do this. In fact in NT you can't logon locally to the machine if it is a PDC of BDC.

In w2k server you can.

Best wishes
