Problems Dialing in with Dell D600

First of all I am new here and this is a great forum. Wish I had found it long ago.
Anyway, I just got a new Dell D600 and now I can't communicate with any of my switches and never had a problem with my old laptop. Wondering if anyone has had same issues with a Dell and what the fix was. I've tried everything I can think of except changing the initialization string.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use Procomm and Order Pro. Neither work. I also noticed that any of our switches that have an SEB, I can talk to fine but the other that have plain modems on them, I can't talk too.

I use Procomm Plus with a Dell laptop. Procomm Plus is our company's standard due to it's emulation capabilities and robust scripting language. All of my techs also use Dell laptops of various models. The Dell laptops equiped with internal modems have problems commnicating with various pieces of equipment some of which are our Meridian PBX's. In most cases, we removed the modems from our Meridians and connected them to term servers or Cicso aux ports so we can telnet to them and that works well. I a couple cases we did not have that choice and are stuck with a modem. I believe it may be compatibility with the modems connected to the switches, which are typically US Robotics. If we replace the modems with Motorola UDS modems, the problem is gone. We have played with every setting possible on these laptops to no avail. For some of our other equipment that has built in modems that can not be traded out, our Dell Laptops just will not talk to them, so we keep a PCMCIA modem for these few cases or try to find alternate solutions.

I have techs in other states that have HP or Compaq laptops that do not experience this so I am convinced that it is the internal modem that comes with the Dell.

Before you go replacing stuff though, try disabling compression in your modem settings immediately prior to making the connection. If you have a lot of switches and do not have the option to connect them to your network, then try a PCMCIA modem. You can pick them up cheap and can probably return it for a refund if it does not do the trick.

i have a init string for a robotics that will work everytime from a dell, i'll look it up tomorrow, i use dual modem ports in my dell, so i can dial into both ends of a pri ckt, i perfer robotics to the seb, but the sebs are set to 12 while i set others to 96, if i have trouble getting through on any modem i use atdt 9,xxx xxxx from the screen and pre select the speed, sometimes that's all it takes

i have the init string on the harddrive at work, wed i'll be back, so sometimes wed, just post a thread for the for the init string and i'll post it, they say memory is the second thing to go, can't remember what was 1st
