Problem Working with WIC1-ADSL

Hello, I just bought a Cisco 2651 router. I also purchased a used WIC1-ADSL from eBay. When running initial setup on the router with the WIC installed, I see 2 FastEthernet interfaces. Should I also see an entry for the WIC card? Also, the three leds are green, yellow, and green respectively. However, they are very dim. Is this normal or did I buy a dead WIC?

It's been a while since I worked with one, but I think you should see the ADSL WIC when you do a "show ver". At the very least, you should see an ATM0 interface in your config. Is there an ATM0 interface available to configure?

If it shipped from Hong Kong its a fake. You need at least 12.3.3 code on that router for it to recognize it

I do not see ATM0 which is what I expected to see in the config besides the FastEthernet interfaces. I purchased it from a user with good feedback in CA. He claims that it was tested, but things happen I guess. Hopefully he will honor the refund. So do you think the dim leds is a sign or is that normal?

You might want to follow Brian's suggestion and verify that you have the right code on the router, but my guess is that the WIC is bad. Have you tried re-seating it?

The wic-1adsl is good!!!!You will need an IOS PLUS version to used the card.Go to cisco image navigator to see the 2600 images that supports ADSL.

Okay, thanks! Now, my problem is...which version should I select? Basically (if this even matters) I want to route multiple static WAN IPs to the respective local IPs (websites) on my local net.

...also, since I have purchased this router used, how do I gain access to download the IOS version once I chose one? I have registered with CCO, but whenever I try to access docs or any downloads, I cannot login. I am thinking that I need to subscribe/pay for this ability. Am I wrong? Btw, I can login at the main cisco page, but I just cannot download anything.

I think you have to have a smartnet contract to download IOS and get support.As far as getting the IOS their could be some legal issues.But I think (they say)that cisco old IOS don't need valid liscense.So maybe someone will pass you on a valid image.

Well, I cannot get Cisco to reply with the cost to get the IOS that I need for the 2651 that will recognize the WIC1-ADSL card. So, since this was a temporary solution anyhow, I will just shelf it for now and once I go to the T1, it will be ready to go.

So in the interim, I plan to get an 800 series router that will do the job. I need PPPoA and the ability to route multiple WAN IPs (already have a bank of static IPs with my ISP) to the respective local IPs (webservers).

Could someone tell me if the Cisco 877 that I have found on eBay will do the job?

I replied once today but it disappeared. Weird.

Anyway, you wouldn't contact Cisco directly for this. You'd call a reseller. You can probably find someplace online that will sell you an old license for cheap. The list price for a newer release of IP PLUS is $700, but I'm sure you can find great deals online somewhere.

People sell old IOS's for around $30 on Ebay all the time, and apparently it's not a problem...

Thanks guys for the tips. I think I would still like to go after one of the 800 series from my last posts if they would work. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if one of them would do what I need. Once again, I just need PPPoA support and the ability to route the static WAN IPs to respective local IPs.

I've used a prog called IOS Hunter, supposed to search all available sources for an IOS - not sure if its quite true, however looking on the search engine - having just searched for the 2600 multiservice there are basically dozens of images from enterprise to IP Plus, firewall, encryption etc.
might be worth a look...........and no i don't work for them but I was in a similar position when I bought a 3600 and then a WIC DSL card and came accross the prog after much googleing. i know how frustrating trying to get updates from Cisco can be, bit silly really, bless!!
