I am using AOL 8.0 on a WindowsXP box to connect to my
workplace via VPN. I can connect to my site with no
problem. But after about 2-3 minutes, I lose my AOL
connection with the message "reset by remote host"

Has anyone been able to get around this problem?

Thanks!

What kind of VPN are you using?

Are you saying the VPN connection drops or the AOL connection drops (or both)?

Dialup, cable or otherwise.

XP home or pro, and are you properly service packed?

AOL generally doesn't like VPNs. Cable connections can work sometimes if you are using AOL as a secondary service and you have another company acting as your ISP.

I have run into this same problem while connecting to my work via VPN. I dont use AOL, but MSN messenger will disconnect, Yahoo Messenger will disconnect and i cant surf the internet.

I am not sure exactly why, because i have not really researched it, but i think it has to do with the temporary IP address you get from the VPN and your AOL is trying to connect to the service using the VPN. So, what it comes down to is that you cannot use both at the same time. I dont know if there is a work around or not.

I am using dial up and the VPN client is Intel NetStructure

I can connect fine. But as soon as I launch an app (such
as VNCviewer or a simple telnet window) to access the
tunnel, the connection goes down.

Any help would be great

Thanks!
