Hello

I'm currently learning the proper installation of Exchange 2003.

In the book i just read, there is a recommendation that the Exchange Services should be run with a special service account.

Here are the instructions from the MSPRESS Book:

- In AD USers & Computers, create a user account called SVC_XCH, set the properties to password never expires and can't change password. Add the account to the Enterprise, Domain, and Schema Admins group

- double-click an exchange service, click log on tab, and then use the service account. configure also all the remaining Exchange services to run under the service account

BUT: The problem with this is, is won't work. The Services refuse to start. You can try it for your self in your own test environment if you want to.

Therefore my questions:

1. Is it really recommended to use a service account for the exchange services

2. Why this process doesn't work, and how can i get the services up & running under the specially created service account

By default Exchange uses the buitl-in System account, there is no need for you to create one.
Leave the Services as they were.
