I use an ASUS p4p800, Pentium 4 2ghz, Leadtek Winfast TI4800 SE.
I have installed a 512 mb Kingston PC2100 in slot a1, and did not have any problems.
I wanted to increase my memory and bought another block of 512 and placed it according to documentaion in slot b1.

My VmWare works excellent, my machine uses the extra Ram, but my Graphics does not.
When I play a demanding game like ET the screen flickers and goes black for seconds, and comes back on for a few seconds and goes black again.

When I remove my extra Ram, it works without problems.
Any ideas what this could be.

My Aperture in bios is set to 64 MB.

Thanks
Martin

Change the Ramm slots about and test.

Just take out your old ramm and just run with the new one if the problem still exists then the Ramm is up the Duff

Take it back to the shop

Thanks, but Im pretty sure thats no the problem. I must admit, I forgot to tell you the whole story.

I started off with a 256 dimm and did not have any Graphics problems, but obviously low performance on for instance VmWare.
I bought an additional 512 and my problems started.
So I figured out its no good to have two different Dimms installed, and I took out the original 256.

Now I ran with a single 512 and everything was dandy.

I added another 512 to boost performance on my VmWare, and then my graphics problems occur again.

Im running only 400MHz on the FSB, so the Northbridge should easily be able to cope. The 3D usage with only one dimm seems OK, so why cant I have two identical dimms ?
What am I missing ?

You can have 2 identical dimms thats not the problem.

I hope you have tried the NEW 512 dimm on its own like i suggested.

With a Gig of ramm put your Aperture on 256

Yup, tried all that now, thanks.
In spite of mob documetation to use a1 b1, I've put the two dimms in a1 and a2. Actúally seems to work a little bit better, but I still get some black-outs when using heave 3D.

I dont know.. I appreciate your comments, but it doesnt look like Ill solve this one.
