Problem with Net gear DG834G , & Checkpoint VPN working with Definity 1

Hi guys I would really appreciate you help with this one Im still learning. I hope I have given enough information. Below is a copy of an email I sent to tech support at Netgear regarding a problem I have using with my new router. However so far the have not been very forth coming, they even insisted on putting me through to a call centre in India regarding a faulty power supply that needed replacing.



“Hi I have a fault currently open with you regarding my Net gear DG834G (Ticket 654250), and I was very kindly offered a call back. Think maybe someone may have forgotten, anyway this is my problem just to recap; any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also work on a helpdesk and I’m not a stress inducing customer, promise.

PROBLEM:

I use Checkpoint secure remote VPN, it seems to work fine. I can authenticate with the server at my place of work. I can also gain access to resources, a web based data base for example on IP 10.60.1.82:80. I can also ping IP's within the work network, and I think I can probably network share although I have not got round to trying yet.

However there is an essential voice over IP server (Definety Centre VU IP Agent) I need to log onto and I seem unable to. I can however ping it on its IP 192.168.11.34 I just can’t log onto it.

If I switch back to a dialup modem it works fine so I suppose it’s something to do with NAT. My client/home machine is currently set to be the DMZ on 192.168.0.4, my router IP is 192.168.0.253, and my router also currently uses the latest firmware release of 1.4

Within the features of my VOIP client I see an option that states....

"Use the following IP address (As displayed by the VPN client should you experience problems logging on"

Well I tried putting several IP's in here my outside world IP 82.68.**.**, my home network IP 192.168.0.4. However I think it should probably work with this faffing around. Hope I don’t seem to dense, and I appreciate any help you could specifically because VOIP was one of the main reasons I purchased the router so I could work from home. And I’m sure we I should be able to get this working in theory, thanks in advance if you can help.”

I have a smiliar problem with my H.323 VOIP solution. Not familiar with your system, but here's what I need to do to get things to work:

My computer at home has an IP of let's say 192.168.0.1.
Now, when I fire up my VPN connection the WAN PPP device get's an IP of 10.0.0.50.
Now, if I ping any system on 10.0.0.0 subnet I get response through my VPN connect.
All is well.
Now, if I fire up my VOIP client, (SJPhone from SJLabs), and have it configured to use my VOIP Gatekeeper, (let's say it's IP is: 10.0.0.10), it'll error out. The reason is because when I launch SJPhone it uses my machines NIC IP of 192.168.0.1, not the VPN IP of 10.0.0.50. So, SJPhone has an option to choose from the different adapters that are presesnt. So I select the adapter that has IP 10.0.0.50 associated with it and bingo, I'm in.

Let me know if this doesn't help and I'll see what I can some up with.

Thankyou for your feedback mate are you saying tell the VOIP client your internet IP address. If so I have tried that already but good suggestion thanks. This thing is driving me nuts

I set my machine up as DMZ so I dont think its a port forwarding issue either. If the ports required to be opened for my Definity softphone were published I could enter the port/ports/port range manually but they are not ;( My softphone uses the G.711 codec

Actually I was saying to use the IP the VPN server assigns once your connected.

Here are the ports my system uses:

UPD 2627 and 1718, 1719, 1720 for H.225 requests/alerting
TCP 1720 and 2741
UDP 16384 and 16386
