I posted a question previously that "i am using windows XP Pro and is having problem with ipconfig command. when I enter ipconfig command in the command prompt it gives me an error saying " ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". well, i got some replies and tried to fix it with the solutions that some of you guys gave me. But it didnt worked so if anybody have some other suggestions please help me out...Thank you..

If you:

Start, Run, CMD and hit enter,
Then type cd c:\windows\system32
And then type ipconfig

It should run the application.

The earlier advice suggested a PATH problem in your environment.

If ipconfig does not run at this point, or you cannot reach a CMD session, you have a virus on your machine.

It sounds like SirCam, or KLEZ, but please run an on-line virus scanner first. I usually recommend this site, but there are other good ones:
If you could run ipconfig with the instructions above, carefully edit you Environmental Settings as recommended orignally.

Please let use know how you are doing with all of this.

Best.

It works with the instructions you gave, that is type c:\windows\system32. but it wont work when i just open the cmd prompt and put in ipconfig..i have tried to correct the path too..in my environmental variable setting the first line says Compspec and path or value is c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe and when i try to edit it, it says %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe...if something is wrong with this..please lemme know...

Your comspec value is correct. Lets try again. Right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Environment Variables.

You should have an additional value called Path (should be in the lower box)

If you do not, that is the problem. Copy and paste this line into a new variable called Path

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

If you have an existing Path variable, select edit and make certain that the above is there as the first entries in the path statement, and that it appears exactly the same as the above. There can be additional lines, but the beginning of the path statement must be exactly like the above.

THanks a lot..The path value was wrong. I changed it the way you told me too..and its working now...thanx again..
