I have A Maxtor 40gb hard drive that came out of another pc. I was able to install the hard dive as a second hard drive into my HP computer and was detected in the bios as the slave and in MY computer. Bt when I boot the computer and get the Win Xp Welcome Screen the built in speaker on the computer makes a continuous beep noise. The speaker does not make any noise until I get the welcome screen. I am not sure if I need to set the Jumpers on the hard drives to the cable select positions or to change somthing in the bios to stop the beep noise. I did not run Fdisk or format the drive yet.
Any Advise would be great.

is the keyboard working?
did you jumper as slave? try on 2nd controller as master (unplug cd/dvd).
unplug the beeper, boot and load windows.
try to disable beeper in registry(i think there is a key, ask google/forum).
check for hardware failure in device manager, irq/memory conflicts, check system logs. also run diskmanager and partition/format the drive.
if you don´t find any problems check if beeping is gone.
if it´s still there run stress tests/aida32/sisoft sandra/memtest.
if pc is still working fine just leave beeper unplugged, do a system backup and ignore it.
