Hi,
I have setup a DHCP server with single scope. Conflict detection is on and attempt is set to 1. Lease expiry is set to 3 days. But I find in few machine message popping up conveying a possible IP conflict. In the DHCP address lease page I am able to see entries with "Allready in use" remark and sytemname column as "bad Address".
Please let me know what to do to stop this ip conflict issue.
Regards,
Sas

Do you have a range of static IP addresses on your network?

Assuming you do, have you configured the Scope in DHCP manager not to give out these IP addresses ?

I know this and static ip addresses are excluded from the range. My problem is with DHCP address issued by server are not checked against a possible conflict.
Here and there I see some conflicts occuring and the address lease pool showing "Address already in use" remarks and bad address status.
Please let me know is there any thing else I can look into.
Regards,
Sas

If you have lease set to expire in 3 days and the computers that are causing conflict are not turned off in that three day period of time ... this might cause the conflict.

Because the lease has expired, the DHCP server will attempt to reissue the address. But, if the PC with the expired address has not been rebooted since expiration, it still holds that address.

You may have to run "ipconfig /release" from the PC cmd line in order to clear the address from the PC.

We used to get this problem a lot when we were running Win9x clients, but it hasn't been so bad since we started using Win2K.
