problem with application deployment

Guys, I have a weird problem here. I'm trying to deploy my Web application to another development server. I created an installer via Web Setup in .Net, and it installed successfully. However, it won't update the datagrid. The ItemDataBound function is working, but if the user clicks the update or cancel buttons, nothing happens; the page just refreshes. It works fine on the server it was built on. Any idea what's going on here?

Is it possible that the other machine does not have access to the database that you are pulling data from?

Nope, because it can see the data just fine, including whenever it's updated from an instance that's working. It seems that the update command is not even firing, 'cause I don't get any traces from it. I also tried re-building the application from the solution on that machine in case there was some sort of weird build error, but it has the same problem. I'm almost certain it's some sort of .net configuration error, but I can't figure out what it could be for the life of me.
