Howdy!

We recently moved a server from one campus to another, so we're adding this client to a different Legato server.

When duplicating the client information and backup specs, I get the following message:

Server nbacknt.mmc-sil.com: user on machine nbacknt.mmc-sil.com is not on administrator list

Any ideas?

Server nbacknt.mmc-sil.com: user on machine nbacknt.mmc-sil.com is not on administrator list

you are trying to add the client using the administrator GUI with a user different to Administrator or root, and the user is not specified as an NW admiistrator user.

Cheers.

At some point the machine you are trying to add must have been on administrators list ( check setup server tap-admin list), since the server moved to different zone ( Networker server) it must be added to admin list if required. ( addding to admin list will allow you to connect networker administrator program form the client and administer the server)
If this does not resolve the issue, just reinstall the client from scratch ( Not on server) and remove any NSR files ( on the client only).

OK...

Hrmm.

Our server (nbacknt) is Win2K running NW 6.1

The client, in this case (southp1), is an HP-UX machine - not sure of the client version.

Are you saying that on the client (southp1), that an administrator or server was specified?

This "admin list" would be on the client, then, correct?

When I've installed clients on a W2K machine, it will ask me for a specific server, which I leave blank, allowing any server to backup files. I'm assuming that this wasn't done on the HP-UX client?

take a look to the [tt]/nsr/res/servers[/tt] file in your HP-UX. It has the NW server(s) who is authorized to backup this hp-ux client.

I just had our UNIX admin check for that file.

In /nsr/res, the only files that exist are:

nsr.res
nsrjb.res
nsrla.res

Any other ideas?

That is o.k. - if the servers file is missing, all NW servers can backup this client.

In a save environment, you can do this. Otherwise i would not recommend it.

That's what I was thinking - that's why we don't specify a server when we install the clients on W2K/W2K3 machines.

Any other ideas why I'm getting that error above?

Well - it has been said - the new machine is not listed as administrator. This entry on the server (in the Server resource) resides at the beginning of nsr.res on the server.
"administrator" is the first line. Use a proper editor (write).

- Stop the NW server
- Add '*@*' in this line to allow everybody
- start the server
- open the admin gui
- adjust the entry in this field.
That's it.

I suppose I'm not quite understanding...

The "server" you're referring to, as in "Stop the NW server" - are we referring to the client I want to backup, or to the actual backup server?

I guess that I'm getting confused, because this machine was being backed up successfully on the old server, and when comparing the "administrator" line located in "C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\res\nsr.res" on both backup servers, they're identical.

Forget about the client for a while - if you are not a NW administrator, you can not change anything about the configuration, neidether change resources, nor adding new clients.

Server means NW server.

Yes, the default entries for the administrators will not change - i think the default is "Administrators@localhost" for windows.

Hrmm...

Didn't end up changing anything whatsoever, rebooted and that solved the problem.

Weird. Of course, I'm now having other issues, for which I've created a new post.

Thanks for the assistance!
