I am using XP pro. I carried out a disk defrag to improve the performance of my pc. When i rebooted the computer the pc went through some of the normal procedures until it reached the point:-

SEARCHING FOR BOOT RECORD.....CD/DVD-0 NOT FOUND
NTLDR MISSING
PRESS CLTR+ALT+DEL TO RESTART

When I do this the computer gives me the same message and does not boot up.
I have not backed up any of my files so I am a bit distressed i might lose
everything if i boot up again with my XP pro cd.
Can you help me please.
Thanking you in advance

Nigel

While I have never personally tried this guide, it might be worth a look:

A defrag won't kill a hard drive, so unless the drive was bad to begin with, your data will still be on there.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

You don't have a CD or Floppy in the machine by any chance?

sometime when ntldr is missing you can just get it from another box and put it where its missing from...
