I've been trying to uninstall VFP8.0 from my old box so that I can do a new install on my new machine. So far I've not been successful.

When using add/remove programs from the Control Panel, VFP brings up a screen informing me that there are some prerequisites needed. I don't know why I would need to load the prerequisites prior to doing an un-install, but I've complied however, the program fails to successfully complete the task. (Runtime components fail and problems with SOAP) Consequently, I'm unable to get to the screen where I can request an un-install.

In the Readme file I read about an option to do a manual install and set a flag to bypass the pre-requisites and I've actully made it to a screen containing the option to un-install. That has not been any help either -- the install program reports that it is done but the program is still there.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. I hate to just delete the files through explorer and leave all the registry entries and other files that are not in the VFP directory.

Thanks in advance -- cd.

Thanks Rick,

I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.

Cd,

Presumably, the reason you want to uninstall it on your old machine is to comply with the licensing requirements, which is commendable. However, I would have thought that if you simply deleted all the VFP files and registry entries (in the two Software branches), you would meet those requirements.

I know that would leave certain components still registered, but since it's an old machine anyway, does it really matter?

Mike,

That's what I ended up doing last night. I spent a couple of hours chasing the problem and was never able to solve it. I probably wouldn't have bothered but my wife uses the machine and I wanted to give her some additional space on the drive.

For those who might be following in my footsteps, I had Visual Studio 6.0 installed and that seemed to un-install okay but I think it may have left some components that caused VFP8 to think it needed upgrades. I ran into problems with Windows Installer when I was manually running bootstrap.msi to install the runtime setup files.

Ultimately, I said bag it and just deleted the files and folders. I'll clean up the registry tonight.

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Chuck
