What server do you use?
Have you set up correctly the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server?
Do you have permissions to send mail through the server?
And (stupid question) do you use the right password?

My server is a POP3 Yes Iv'e checked the smtp address and yes I also have permision to send mail to the server. The password is also correct. I get the error number OX8OOCCCOF
I bump into this problem before. My boss ask to setup his home pc with a local cable internet broadband POP3 email. everything is working fine for month. Just last week he has a problem send and receive email he had the same error number message as your. I call techsupport to tested at their end. everything to be working fine. they said that my boss must have install some programs that would locking port 110 and 25. I did a system restore back to the day that was working. Now everything is runing fine.
Styart OE and then go to Tools>Accounts.. Highlight your account and select "Properties".. Now, click on the "Servers" tab..
On the new page, right at the bottom, put a checkmark in "My server requires authentication".. Now, click on the "Settings tab beside it..
Make sure the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked.. Aplly and okay out.
I am having a similar problem. I have outlook Express set up with both a hotmail acc and a pop 3 account but recently everytime I send a message I get the error:

I am trying to use my .Mac account to send emails from my iMac but although I changed my password on both the website and my computer I am still asked for it and then it is refused. This is also happening on my Freeserve and Talk21 accounts. I can get mail in.
I can also send mail from my PC so it must be the mac that is having trouble. I downloaded Keychain FirstAid, but it said I didn't have any problems. but I have This is driving me crazy Learn something new every day.
