Hello all,

We recently had a network audit whereby the purpose of the audit was to check our network security. The auditor walked me through setting Complex passwords using group policy. Now I need to change the password of one user and it is insisting we use complex passwords, I don't want to use complex passwords and when I check the Group policy the password complexity is set to disabled. I have tried removing the policy at the domain level, AND blocking Policy inheritance at the users OU level but it still insists that password complexity is not being met. No other Policies are set on the domain at any level, the changes were made and then disabled in the Default Domain Policy.

How can I get back to using non-complex passwords and why is the policy not doing what it should be?

Regards.

Hi Labone.

Curious if you have you tried refreshing the user user or machine GPO at the local PC?

gpupdate [/target:{computer | user}] [/force] [/wait:Value] [/logoff] [/boot]

Thanks wdoellefeld,

The problem turned out to be not the password complexity but the password length, it was set to eight when I was trying to enter a seven digit password. The thing is the password length in the GP was set to "not defined", I had to go in and physically set it to 7 and enable it for a 7 digit password to be accepted. I think I need to do more reading on Group Policies and their effects.

Thanks for the reply anyway.

Regards,

Labone.
