I have a strange problem occuring when i open an exel spreadsheet on about 4 different machines.
Its a bit of a strange one so you may wanna put your thinking caps on
. Here goes:
We get manifests from customers and these come in as an .xls or a .doc word format and when opened (office 2003) displays the information in the usual format.
But recently (about 2 weeks ago) the .xls documents one company send through and the .doc files another (unrelated) company send through both open with an unrecognised format error and are displayed as gibberish.
However i know the file formats are correct because they can be opened on other machines and they display
them the correct way.
And that is the problem, why would these machines all of a sudden not open two types of files from two totally unrelated companies when these files open fine on other machines. Strange......but here is the stranger part;
Other .xls and .doc files that do not come from these two companies open fine on the problematic machines, which to me is the strange part.
If none of these types of file opened, then i would imagine it has something to do with the installation of office on our machines or something wrong with the file we are being sent but this is not the case as other files of the same type can be opened properly from other companies and the files being sent from the offending companies open properly on other machines.
Any help would be wonderful as this problem has me completly stumped.
Thank you
