Have you seen this problem, or have ideas of how to diagnose? When trying to install v9.1 (re-install, actually) on a Win2003 server the system responds with an error "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data.Cab' required for this isntallation is corrupt and cannot be used...". I'm working with Veritas (Symantec), but so far their advice hasn't brought a solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

How are you installing the application. Are you installing across a network? I would re-download the install files and extract them locally the serverto c:\veritas. Grant System full control of c:\veritas and try the installation

Basically it cant open that data.cab file due to rights, corrupt files or installing in Terminal services or across the network.

Make sure you extracting it correctly as well. You should have three subfolders once extracted.

The error 1335 is a Windows Error or Windows installer error

Steve,

Thanks for your help. Sorry for the delay in responding.

My thinking is as yours -- I've tried all that you've described (download new file set; check extraction; check file access rights), and am looking for more ideas.

I'm installing locally, not via network. First attempts were with the distribution CD (directly), next was from hard drive (I copied CD contents to HDD), next was from downloaded, extracted file set. All produce the same results, so I'm ruling-out file corruption.

I agree with your thinking that the problem is with Windows Installer. I've made several attempts under different conditions (aside from using different install file sets) and all produce the identical 1335 error message. HOWEVER, the error occurs on a variety of files (IE - it's not the case that the install fails on a single, specific file).

Any ideas where I can get info/resources/help for diagnosing Windows Installer problems?!

Thanks Again!
Pete

You can try downloading Windows Install 3.1 but I think its beyong that. I think its rights on the server. May want to contact Microsoft

Steve,

Thanks. I agree -- IInstaller and permission/access rights seem like prime suspects.

Regarding permissions, I'm installing from the Admin account, and have full rights on the target folders. (I just thought of something -- maybe a temp folder is being created and inheireted rights are propogating as expected). It doesn't explain how/why the install procedure fails at different points (different files). If it were a permissions issue the install would always fail at the same point (right?).

Regarding Installer, this is new ground for me... I'll check for update or/and de/re-install.

In both cases (Installer and rights) I'm trying to find help via Microsoft, mainly the support web site, and user forums. If you can suggest specific areas/sites please do.

Thanks Again,
Pete

Tried re-install with 'full control' rights; no joy.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

How can I get this package to install? Or how can I get more info about the cause of the problem?

Thanks,
Pete

Lawnboy -- Thanks. It looks like it could help! I'll check it out.

Thanks Again,
Pete
