I'm trying to reinstall win95 on a friends HP computer. Someone else had win98 on it, but for some reason deleted some of the system files. When first tried to reinstall win95 I got a message that said that if I had hpfs or ntfs create a DOS boot partition. (This is after I have reformatted the drive.) I tried that and still no sucess. When I tried to install using OEMSETUP it gave the massage that there were some compressed files on the drive. But none are listed in the C: dir.

What does fdisk #4 show for partitioning. Later 95 and 98 added some media descriptors that 95 can't handle.
If you have this problem, you remove the existing partitions and the create some to use.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

If you partitioned the disk with a Fat32 partition it won't work?
Win95 doesn't recognize a Fat32 partition you must use a Fat16 partition for it to work properly.
Why change to Win95 if you allready have Win98???
