I am trying to count only data that is equal to a specific text string. I do not want to display all the totals just the total for this specific string, but in the same report I need to use the rest of the data.

I have tried grouping by that data and counting those but that just gives me the info I need it available on the report for calculation. I also have tried selecting only that data and that causes all the data I need to calculate it with to disappear(obviously). I also tried creating a formula but just can't seem to get it right.

What am I missing? Any help would be appreaciated.

two options

1) an if then formula - If {fieldname} = "desired text" then 1 else 0. Then sum the formula field.

2) A running total field. Insert, Field Object, Running total field, evaluate based on formula, reset = never. In the formula again use the statement {fieldname}="desired text", and make the running total a count summary.

You may have to use the trim() function in case there are leading or trailing spaces to get an exact match and return the desired results. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
