I'm not sure if anyone has come across this before, but here goes....

I am trying to backup the transaction log files generated by Exchange 2000 (all those pesky little E00 files) Please note that I am not trying to back them up using the Exchange agent just the Windows agent - they are just files after all, aren't they ? However, whenever I run the job it simply ignores all of the files, I have no filtering set I'm just trying to do a FULL backup of the folder containing the files. The job always completes without error but the number of files backed up is always reported as zero !

If I run a count job on the directory the correct number of files is reported, a Brigthstor copy job will successfully copy the files but the backup always ignores them. Incidentaly if I do copy them to a new location and them back them up it works fine.

Forget the reason why I am trying to do this for the moment (I forget myself sometimes) but does anyone have any ideas ?

Before I forget this is a Windows 2000 setup running Brightstor 11.1

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

All these transaction logs, though being simple files, are considered "open" when the Exchange server is functional.

If you need to back them up as "files" and not as transaction logs, you have to stop the Exchange services and perform a backup as FLAT FILES.

BAB has an inbuilt logic to skip all database related files while backin up the Files system.

Hope this helps

cheers
