Hi all,

This is maybe a FAQ. Oure priv.edp file is now 1Gb. Is there a way to make this smaller?

Backup up you IS, stop the IS and run an eseutil /d to defragment the IS. This will recover any whitespace reported via EVENT ID 1221.

Alternatively, set up and enforce limits limits for users.

How many users do you have? If you're worried about a 1GB priv.edb, you're in for some stressful days ahead....

We have about 20 users and are approaching 1gb after about 6 months. With 20GB SCSI drives being just over £100 we threw one in for peace of mind.

yeah. so 15 users are averaging 65mb each. I hate to sound nonchalant about this, but that's really very little. If you're concerned though, set mailbox limits.

as an example.. we have 55 users ... and our IS is over 26gigs .. that's about average. *shrugs* I think you're on target. You maybe wish to increase your disk-space soon -- Our Disk space for the IS Stores are in the 100 gig range. We're good for a while. Alshrim

If you have 55 users and have a 26 GB Priv.edb, that's way too much. Are you letting users store graphics and movie files. We filter these out using GroupShield and set storages limits at 86000 per user. This makes them keep their mailbox old messages cleaned out.

we are a graphics company .. so yes .. svg files, bitmaps as well as marketting png files are stored there ...

26 gigs is not that big for what we do.

We have a huge repository for that very reason, I have spoken to other administrators, and have found that some of theirs are also as large.
