I have been monitoring and charting the size of the Priv.edb file. For 4 weeks it change by a good 20 megs.
Now it has been stuck for 4 weeks at the exact same size.
How is this possible??

Peter

What you're really seeing is the amount of disk space the Priv.edb is taking up, as opposed to the amount of real data that it contains. It grows in size as needed, but will not shrink unless an OFFLINE defrag is performed. However, on a daily basis, exchange performs an ONLINE defrag, that cleans out deleted/tombstoned items, etc...This process doesn't shrink the size of the file, but frees up space within the file for new data. So, let's say your PRIV is 10GB, and you delete a user mailbox that contained 1GB of data. The PRIV file size would not change, but there would now be room in that 10GB file (after online defrag) for new information totalling up to 1GB before it grows again. That may be why you're not seeing the file size change. I hope that wasn't too long-winded...:-)

Nope thats great. I was wondering if that is what is was.
I will leave it for now. Hasn't changed in awhile. But I am
sure we will be over the mark soon.

Thanks

Peter
