How can I get the Legend 7 to print directly to a serial printer - I have a 355A adapter I have tried the Admin Port and the SMDR Port without any response.

8 pin 1200 baud serial printer hooked to smdr port. It should print the last 100 or so call records when hooked up correctly. If it doesn't you don't have it connected properly, or don't have the right printer. OR the port is bad. Are you trying to print something other than call details?

It may be that your PRINT OPTIONS setting is set for the PC PORT rather than the SMDR PORT.

Thus, at the MAIN CONSOLE, Press MENU > PRINTOPTIONS > then toggle it to the SMDR PORT.

Can not find "PRINTOPTIONS" on the menu - I find print and then all the selections of what I want to print.

The Print Options menu will only appear when using WinSPM in SPM mode on the initial screen.

Is there a way to print direct to the serial printer without going through WinSPM, If not do I need a serial port on the laptop to connect up or can I connect through the network port on the laptop to run WinSPM

WinSPM can connect three ways: thru the Admin port on the processor; a modem connection from your laptop to an 012 or 016 Tip/Ring module or by calling the system from outside and having someone manually transfer you to the processor modem. (You can also setup remote access). IF - someone changed the default for printng reports from PC mode to SMDR - the only way you can change it back is by connecting via WinSPM, and then choosing standard SPM and then on the first screen choosing "Print Options" and changing it to what you want. You can via WinSPM print whatever you want to the laptop PC - except for SMDR reports.

Well this shows my stupidity- you said connect the laptop thru the Admin port on the processor - Do you mean connect from the 10/100 Ethernet port on the laptop to the admin port on the processor. - I don't have 012 or 016 module I have all 008 MLX and 408 GS/LS MLX Modules - You mentioned a modem port where is that.

On the Processor there are 2 Ports near the bottom.

The ADMIN PORT is the lowest.

On your LAPTOP you would use A SERIAL PORT.

One thing though, most new LAPTOPS do not come with a SERIAL PORT.

Therefore you may have purchase a USB one, if your LAPTOP doesn't have one built in.

THe connection to the ADMIN PORT will require the 355(A or AF) ADAPTER, and probably a 9 pint to 25 pin adapter as well.

Or - you can connect your laptop with a standard RJ11 jumper from the laptop modem port to an 012 or 016 Tip Ring module port. Or you can call the system from an outside line and use "manual transfer" to have someone transfer you to *10 (using the laptop modem).

Reference is to the laptop modem - there is no modem just a 10/100 DSL port for connection to the DSL line- This is why I didn't use the WinSPM to program the system I could not figure out how to connect to the system. Programming I understand, but these references don't match my computer terminolgy. Please help and old man get a grasp of this. My LAPTOP has a parallel port, a 10/100 port and USB ports. I have a MLX-20 console. I have a 007 MLM module. I have two 408 GL/LS MLX modules, and two 008 MLX modules with 7 OS line connected. 4 are in rotation. I have the admin and the SMDR ports. I do have a 355A Adapter and a RJ45 adapter on hand.

Well then - you need to get a USB to serial port adapter for your laptop. As Merlinman mentioned - some of the newer laptops do not have a serial port - and that is what you need. I am surprised the laptop does not have a modem. The 355AF adapter will do you no good without a computer serial port - unless you happen to have a desktop or another laptop with such a port or with a modem (RJ11) port.

I too am suprised that it has no modem.

But here's another option, a USB Modem.

Get one, and get it working, then "BORROW" one of your outside lines and connect it to the modem.

THEN, with the Modem, dial into the system on another outside line and TRANSFER to *10.

-OR- Use a Desktop that has a modem and do the same.

-OR- as TOM suggests, use a DESKTIO that has a SERIAL PORT.

Those usually always have a serial port.

OK got my lap top from home it has a modem - set it up tried both 1200 and 2400 baud the correct port for the modem is com three and I am set there I connected to the admin port and the modem on the lap top and I get a failed to connect message.

No - if you are going from a modem you cannot connect to the admin port. You have to call in from another outside line, set up WinSPM to connect MANUALLY via modem - it will self-configure. You need to use a line splitter - so you can call the office (have the WinSPM connection ready to go) - ask then to transfer you to *10 - and when you hear modem tone - gently lay down the phone receiver - and click on connect. When you connect you will be prompted for a password. Use craftr4 as the password - and you should connect. The once some data downloads - you can click on standard SPM and you will see the Print Options choice, click on it and then change it to PC vs SMDR.

Well you knew I would be back - Got connected tried the password, naturally it didn't work - As I said before I bought this system used so I haven't a clue what might be set up in there. What next?

If the password (craftr4) did not work; try just (craft). Hopefully noone has reset it to something else. If they have - you may have to default the processor and start over. Unfortunately if you do a restore of your saved programming from the PCMCIA card - you will also retore whatever the password for modem access. Your other alternative - is to get a laptop or computer with a serial port and use the 355AF adapter to the admin port connection. You do not need a password for that connection.
