Printing to printer share in command prompt do not print

Hi to all the gurus

I have the following problem: when I try to print from windows xp home edition to printer that is in share in windows 98 SE, I can print test page from the printer properties but i can not print to the printer from the command line.
I do capture the printer with
"net use lpt1: \\server\printer"
and then I try to sent job to the printer with the following command "dir > lpt1: "or "copy c:\config.sys lpt1:"
I do not get any thing printed. The net use successed and in the window environment i can print easily also other windows 98 machine can easily print to the share,(in the dos or windows environment). The printer that is connected to the 98 machine is USB type.
I also noticed that the printer that it is xerox type receives something but do not print and goes online again without printing anything.


Any help will be appreciated

I red your reply thanks a lot., but I do notice in your reply two issues and I do not believe any of them is my case first of all in the reply you suggest me to try the devcon command to disable plug and play on the lpt1 but I tried also the lpt2 and lpt3
With net use and nothing printed (of course with dir > lpt2: or dir > lpt3 also you suggested me to try the following command
"net use lpt1: \\server\printer /persistent: yes"
Well I do success to do the net use without persistent: yes and I red in one of your articles that the persistent: yes is nothing special.
So do you believe my case is something special that nobody had this case till now?
Do you believe I should install there print server?

I will appreciate any help

Have you considered approaching Microsoft Support or Xerox Support to see if they can help?
