I am trying to print to an invoice that is about 9 * 7.5. How do I go change the paper size layout. Within the printer setup, it has different options (A3,A4 ect.) But none of those options are the correct dimensions. For mailing labels you can give the exact size, but I do not see that for a normal report. Thanks in advance for any help.

Under file, printer setup, do you not have custom page size as an option?

No I do not. And that is the feature that I need. I am using version 9. Actually 9.2. I wonder why I do not have that??

Mack2,

I think this is printer driver-specific. For example, when I use my Laserjet 6P, I don't see a custom paper size. But when I select my HP Digital Copier, I see an option for 'User defined paper size'.

We are printing to a dot-matrix. The length of the invoice is 2 inches shorter than a 8.5*11. The user defined option still does not come up. Is this a command button. Or in the drop down box?

Mack2,

I was going to say that it's one of the options in the Paper Size dropdown in the Print Setup dialog. However, when I choose that option, I don't see anywhere to specify the page size. Instead, I get A4 (probably because that's the default for the printer driver).

That is what I get for every type of printer I select. But there still has to be a way to modify the page layout.

Mack2,

OK, I see it now. If I go to the properties sheet for my printer (from Control Panel), I can choose Custom Paper Size. When I do, it pops up a little window for me to enter the dimensions. Then, back in CR, those dimensions are the ones that apply to the report.

In the case of my HP 410, I did this from the Paper Size dropdown on the Layout tab. But it's definitely printer-specific. On my Docucom PDF driver, it's the Setup button on the Details page.

I am running XP, and in the properties for the printer I do not have that option. But if it is there, that would solve the problem. Are you running XP?

Mack2,

No, I tested that under Win 98. But surely the property sheet is the same, regardless of OS? Could it be that the printer you are using simply doesn't support custom page sizes (which is not likely in the case of a dot-matrix printer).

I will keep looking. Thanks for your help

I will, thank you. The customer sent us the invoice last Friday, so we will be trying again in a few days.

Mack2,

In Windows NT-based operating systems (i.e. Windows 2000 and XP), the custom paper sizes are set up differently than for Windows 9x-based operating systems.

To set up the custom paper size, Open Control Panel and Printers. From the File menu, you'll find an option called "Server Properties". The first tab of these options allows you to set up custom paper sizes (called forms).

Once a new paper size is created, it will be available for the printer in CR assuming the paper size is supported by the printer driver.

In that way, it is actually both printer driver specific as well as operating system specific.

Hope that help.

ok...this is an awkward page size so perhaps there is no "specific setting" that can be used.

Perhaps we can fool Crystal

perhaps we can position a Group footer with a "New Page After" within 2" of the bottom of a normal 8.5" x 11 page

....worth a try...but we need more report details

The quality of the answer is directly proportional to the quality of the problem statement!

Tirthma,
That is what I was looking for. It is strange you don't do that in crystal. Thanks for your help!

Ngolem,
I did try that. We did not have any luck. Every time we went to the section expert>page footer>new page after it was dimmed out and checked. I do not recall it being that way. Thanks for your help!
