I am having annoying problems with a printer. I have installed a HP LJ4050 onto a PC running 2k sp4 connected via LPT1. I can print when logged in as domain administrator but not as a user. I have made the user a power user then an administrator on the local machine and even tried making them a member of the domain admin group but it still won't print. When they are logged on as them it seems to be a communication error - if I want to add the printer logged in as them it doesn't detect it on plug and play. I'd have thought that it might be the cable but for the fact I can print fine as Domain Admin.

Any advice/suggestions would be much apreciated.

Thanks

Gareth

What kind of messages are you getting in the Application Log of Event Viewer on the local machine (i.e. here is where you will get more information on what exactly is going on when jobs are being sent to the printer)? You can also check the same log in Event Viewer on the print server. I bet your bottom dollar that the main problem is related to user rights on the print server. You need to make sure that Domain Users have the print right checked ie.
from print server right click on printer->properties
->security tab->Everyone/Domain Users (whichever you have)
make sure that the 'Print' right has been checked.

Lemme know. :)

I'm not using a print server, it's a straight connection from LPT1 to the printer. It works when I log onto the machine using the Domain Admin login, but not as any other user :-(
