Hi All,

Is anyone else having this problem? We have several user who, after being upgraded to new machines with Win2k, are having problems with their HP LJ 4 printers. The printers are local printers. On some large documents, the printer will print the first two pages quickly, then pause between each of the next 39 pages, and print the last two pages quickly. All in all, it takes about 20 minutes to print a 42 page doc from Word97. It prints other docs fine and prints from other apps fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Were all of the Office 97 patches installed after the upgrade? There were some serious memory leaks in Office 97.
If they were there before the upgrade, they may need to be reinstalled

Amen Cirrus9 - Office97 on Windows 2000? Sure it might "work" but it was not designed to.

I STRONGLY recommend an update to Office 2000 SR-1 to integrate the linked security features among the OS and Office apps. Major problems are potentially on the horizon especially with Outlook security...not to mention the overall stability of both office and windows.

Ok - back to the printer issue! ;)
Are you spooling the jobs, or printing directly to printer? Also - are you using Post-Script, or PCL? Are you using strange fonts that may be eating up the printers built-in memory?

You should be using (for an LJ4) PCL, and spooling jobs. If you are - try printing directly to the printer, and see if that does it as well. Also try to isolate Office from the picture if you can by perhaps trying to print the same document from a newer machine (preferably with Office 2000).

..just my 2¢
