we have a brand new XP Pro system (w/SP2) and i'm trying to get a network printer set up on it. I'm using a TCP/IP port to print to this printer. I am using the same driver that another XP (w/SP2)system is using which works. When I try to send a test page, the status says it is spooling, then after a few seconds, it changes to Printer--busy or error and the page doesn't print. i am able to print to another printer (HP Laserjet)that is shared through the network without any problems.

i've looked through microsoft Help and spoken with the manuf of the printer and neither has been of any help.

Does anybody else have any other ideas what it could be?

Thanks!

Have you possibly tried uninstalling and reinstalling the print driver?

are you installing this as a network printer.. or a local printer with a tcp/ip port?

Auger, I think he answered this in his question:

lol I didnt even see that... even when I looked over it another 3 times....

what kinda printer is it.. and what ver driver are you using?

Could the XP firewall be blocking the TCP port? I had this issue with a couple of printers and turning off the XP firewall solved it.

Is this an HP printer, or another printer that uses port 9100 protocol under TCP/IP?

Make sure there is an exception in the firewall for port 9100 TCP and UDP.
