We have a ts client at a satellite location connecting through a vpn connection. print jobs print, and when looking on the server they show printed but the jobs don't get deleted from the queue. later on i'll check the printer folder and there is 50 docs in there. They again print as a batch later on. Anyone have this problem? The print spooler service terminates too and has to restart when checked in the event log. Not sure if it's related

Sounds like a driver issue. What kind of printer is it ?

It's an HP Laserjet 2300, The driver is PCL 5e, there is a PCL 6 driver available however. Do you think if it's a driver issue it could cause the print spooler service to terminate?

Thx

A driver issue is actually the most common cause of the spooler terminating in a TS environment.

OK, I called HP and there is a problem w/ the firmware on the HP Laserjet 2300. The fix is to remove exising drivers and use the HP Laserjet 2200 drivers. I did so and installed the PCL 6 drivers and no problem printing. However there is still a lingering problem unassociated w/ the print queue....

Occasionally, at least 4-5x /day the print spooler service terminates ... heres what i see on event viewer...

I had DrWatson running and an event was logged at the same time.

Re: Win2K SP4

I read a couple articles about a possible hotfix from MS. I also understand it may be for SP3?? We have already installed SP4. I read there is an SP4 rollup update coming mid 05. Anyone else had this problem??

Hi there, yeah, we're having the same problem. Win2K SP3 with TS and Citrix MF SP3 installed. I loaded SP4 for Win2K and this didn't fix it so I took it off. Most of what I've seen so far says it is driver related but all my drivers are -3 so this shouldn't be causing a problem. I'm also getting an error in drwatson for the spooolsv.exe just before the spool service dies. I posted an item in the MS Newsgroup under Windows 2000 Printing. Hope one of the MS techies catch it and give me a hand. I've seen a lot of this online with other people. Keep this item updated if you figure out the fix. All the items for this problem thus far seem to be dead ends....no puts what fixed it for them!

Thx....

I ended up calling Microsoft, heres the summary...
PROBLEM:
Print spooler crashing 6-7 times a day on a windows 2000 SP4 print server

CAUSE:

Third Party Print Monitor: Hppamon0.dll

RESOLUTION:

Renamed the 3rd party Print Monitor DLL and removed the pointers to that DLL from the Print Key in the registry
