I designed report to be used as a cheque. The size of each cheque is 8.5 by 7.5. When a single cheque is printed, the line up is perfect, but when several cheques are printed, the page moves down a bit for the second, third, and all the other pages. The Page in the printer setup is set to custom/tractor feed and the page size is set to 8.5 by 7.5. Printing cheques on this size paper was tested in Peachtree and the lineup was perfect when multiple cheques were printing. So I believe something is not set properly in my report. Is there anything that I could be missing? By the way, I am using a program written in VB 6.0 to run these cheques.

Thanks,

The printer margins for the page header/footer may be too small for the printer to support - I would especially be suspicious of the page footer.
Is the problem cumulative ie page 3 is worse than page 2? [sig][/sig]

Yes, Malcolm the problem is cumulative. Page 3 is worse than page 2 [sig][/sig]

What are your page margins? Can you increase them? [sig][/sig]

The page margins were all set to zero. I increased the top and bottom ones to half an inch. [sig][/sig]

Tell me something. If I select the default properties check box in the printer setup screen from within Crystal reports, will the reports use the settings selected from within my program even when the report is used on another computer? I ask because some of the reports used in my program do not alter eventhough the printer settings are altered from within my progam.

Did increasing the page margins have any effect?
Is the paper really 8.5 by 7.5? (I'm suspicious, so I'd measure it).
Do you have another printer you can test with? (Perhaps the one you are using is in need of adjustment)
Regarding the printing properties, what is important here is:
What printer driver (name and version)?
What printer (make and model)?
Of course, the correct printer driver should be used for a given printer.
Ideally, you should design a report with the printer driver that will be used on all client machines. Ideally you should test this report with the printer that will be used on all client machines.
In reality, this is not often done. However in your case, you have a great need for precision. I suggest designing with the client machines' printer drivers, and testing with the actual printer makes and models used.

Send me a sample cheque, and I can help further. It should have at least 6 figures on it so that I can check formatting.:)

Malcolm,

I am not that familar with printer driver names, but I know that there must be a difference with the driver used on the Computer that I am having these problems with. I tried to simulate the environment, by using a dot matrix printer, to see if I would have the same problem on my Computer. However, I did not have the same problem. I am using Windows Me, the computer with this problem has Window NT 4.0.

By the way, I think I would need your email address.

Thanks,

Cooleen

Hmm - I have w2k...
Anyway - email is wynden@telus.net

I must apololgize the Computer with this problem actually has Windows 98 as the Operating system.

Tek-tips viewers,

I discovered that the System that had this problem was missing the proper printer driver. I also discovered, thanks to MalcolmW, that users of PeachTree also had this problem (Check out the article on, "How do I print 7 inch checks on my dot matrix printer?" on the peachtree.com site). Here are the steps you may follow.

1. Ensure (from inside CRW) that your margins are not to small.
2. Add a dot matrix printer to your list of printers.
3. Right click on the printer icon, and select properties.
3. Select the Paper tab
4. In section labeled Paper Size, select Custom.
5. Set the width to 850, and the length to 750.
6. Set orientation to Portrait
7. Set Paper source to tractor.

I hope this helps Mike.

Hi all,
I am using crystal rport 7.0. I want to print labels of the specified size( 4 inch width and 3 inch length) In the Paper of size 4 inch wide and 13.5 inch length.
I have designed the report , but I am not able to set the paper length as 13.5 inches.
can anybody tell me how to set the paper size as 13.5 inch long and 4 inch wide?

Thanx in advance

Fathima

Fathima,

Sorry about the late reply. If you have not yet solved your problem, try steps 3 - 7 of the steps I posted on Nov. 09, 2000. If you cannot access the custom page size option try steps 1 and 2 and then 3 - 7.

I need a proper font for printing on dot matrix printer through crystal reports. My reports are working fine but the quality of printing is very poor in dot matrix printer. Can someone please help.
For your printing margin problem if u are printing at dot matrix printer set the paper size as usStdfanfold and margins will be perfect.
