Printing charts from Web 1

Hello,

I guess this is Web day on the forum! I am wondering if people have had problems with printing charts from the Web through the CR8 Java viewer (or another viewer). I have a chart which prints beautifully through the application, but comes out looking blurry when printed from the Java viewer. It looks fine when viewed. I have tried resizing, because it looks like a picture that has been stretched too far, and this hasn't corrected the problem. I know that there was an issue in which some HP print drivers printed charts upside down and backward, anyone know if this is a similar issue? We only have HPs in the shop. Thanks in advance!

I ran into this problem in my CR8 Web Reporting Environment as well.

This is a consequence of how Crystal Decisions handles graphic objects during the creation of the EPF. Graphical Reports displayed using the Java Viewer are further degraded when you use IE instead of Netscape. This is because Sun handles the graphic conversion differently than the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.

Per Crystal Decisions, you should use the Java Viewer with Netscape and the Active X Viwer with IE. Per my testing in IE 5.5 SP1, Graphical Reports displayed using the CR8 Active X viewer were not as degraded as they were in the CR8 Java viewer, however, they were still degraded enough that the End-Users deemed them to be of 'unacceptable' print-quality.

How did I resolve this issue? I upgraded to CE8. The newer Active X viewer suffers no graphical degradation at all in CE and it suffers very minor degradation (compared to the older version) when viewing CR8 reports.

You should be able to obtain the latest Active X object from Crystal Decisions without having to incur the expense of a CE8 upgrade, however.;-) Perhaps, you can obtain a later version of the Java Viewer as well.

Thank you very much! B-) I appreciate the info, especially the viewer tips. Most of my work is with a product with built-in calls to the Java Viewer, but I have been experimenting with putting reports on a separate Web page, so I can try calling the different viewers to get the best results.
