When I go into Printers and Faxes from Control Panel & double click on the network printer, I consistently get the 'Not Responding' thing & it freezes up. Any clues?

Do these Printers and Faxes really exist?
Have their names been changed?
Do you have privileges to use them?

There is a network printer in the the Printers & Faxes window that does exist. No, the name hasn't been changed. And yes, I have priveledges. The spooler service is running & eating the CPU...when I stop/start the spooler, it acts fine. When I try to access the printer, the spooler goes nuts & the Printers & Faxes window gives me the 'Not Responding' error.
The reason why I was trying to access this printer through control panel is to see the properties, which I cannot do.

Are you running Lantastic by any chance? If you are, you need to change a dll that is left by Lantastic and change it back to the one for XP.

Look in c:\windows\system32 for printui.dll. The one provided by XP is about 510MB in size. If it is much smaller than you are running with the one from Lantastic. You need to delete printui.dll and rename mprintui.dll to printui.dll then reboot.

If you are sharing a network printer w/ xp acting as a server, you can get this error if there are more than ten pc's that have this printer as default printer. If this is the case reply back and I'll let you know how to fix it.

NRGeti, Do you know what triggers that Lantastic dll? I have many remote technicians using Lantastic and the dll doesn't appear right away after installing Lantastic 8.01. I have been able to see the Printer Wizard and add printers only to find later they appear to be gone and I'm unable to add anymore. This is cured by the delete/remname you mentioned but I have also had the dll reappear in some systems after editing and have had to delete and rename the files again. This has been an issue for many months for me and I'm rnning out of hair to pull out! Any thoughts?
