Printer share problem...

We have a problem trying to share a printer between 2 computers. The first computer (with os windows 2000 and local printer) belong to domain (windows 2000 Server). The second computer (with os Windows XP Home edition) belong to local workgroup. Every time, that i create a connection to the printer of the domain computer from the computer with windows XP (workgroup computer) work fine until that i restart the computer with Windows XP, because it cant maintain the connection to the printer computer in the domain.

Is posible maintain the connection to the computer in the server every time that i restart the computer in the workgroup???

Is this a login issue with the domain. I had something similar once, but needed the system to login to the domain on start up. The only way I could do it (as I remember it was some time ago) was to create a shortcut to a shared folder on the domain. Told that to reconnect on startup. That got me by the login issue and then opened up the domain to the PC.

Do you have the printer connected to and shared from the computer that's on the domain?

On the XP workstation install the printer as a local printer and set it to print to the port "file". This first step is simply to get the printer installed.

Once the printer is installed create a new local port called \\servername\sharedprintername using the name of your server and the share name of your printer.

Then change the printer to print to the new local port instead of "file".

When you print your print job will route via the server to the printer without using any drivers from the server.

XP Home lacks the service that permits the storage of domain credentials that Pro has, and cannot do a Domain logon. This is not to say that a persistent connection cannot be defined. See the following discussion:
