PCL3, PCL4, and PCL5

Anyone wanna explain to me exactly what those are?

I've never really payed much attention to it, but now I kinda wanna know.. I tryed googling it for some info doc's but didn't find anything helpful..

These are from HP - PCL = Printer Control Language and is the format that the PC sends its output to the printer, and is emulated by pretty much all laser printer manufacturers as a de facto standard. As I understand it, it fixes the output format so that it gives the same output on different printers. I dont know anything more technical than this, but I would be interested to hear from someone who does also.

pcl is a proprietary term developed and used by HP which stands for printer control language. pcl 5 and above have the improved distiction of supporting a 'scalable font' technology. Scalable fonts represent the image, (which makes it able to be printed at different sizes), instead of the character.
