I have an XP Home and 98 machine. The XP machine is connected to the internet and a printer and scanner. The two machines are connected via a crossover cable.
In the past I used XP's network setup wizard to allow my Windows 98 machine access to the internet via ICS. In addition, the 98 machine could print to the printer.

However, recently I've had to do a reinstall of my XP system. I then ran the networking setup wizard again on the XP system and now my network is back and working - both computers can see each other. However, now my 98 machine can no longer detect any printer even though my printer is shared.

Can anyone offer any possible problem that could be causing this?

Have you tried removing the printer from '98, reboot & reinstall the printer driver?

Yup, no go.

The thing is the, the 98 system doesn't even see the printer on the XP system at all.

Is the share name of the printer longer than 8 characters?

Yes / maybe. Some os's work up to eight, some up to eleven - I can't remember which is what, so I just tell everyone to stay within 8.
