Printer not being recognized in Citrix, via NeoWare thin client

Hi all,

Recently, we moved a NeoWare thin client to another location in the office. However, I noticed it was still listing the old user. Thus, I did the following:

1) Pressed F2 upon boot-up to change the NeoWare user.
2) Went into the Citrix Management Console > Printer Management > Printers, right-clicked and chose "Client Printers...".
3) From here I chose to add a new client printer. The ICA Client Name matches the NeoWare user in step 1. I called the printer name "LPT1". The driver matches and the port matches the LPT1 port on the back of the NeoWare thin client.

My problem is this: Citrix will not display this HP LasetJet 5P printer that is connected to LPT1 in the back of the NeoWare unit as an available printer for the NeoWare user or any of our other users.

Would anyone have any suggestions or think of any steps I would have missed? It does show three ICA Clients under the "Client Printers" screen, all of which are marked as "Deleting". However, they won't disappear.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

- Matt.

I have never used a NeoWare thin client, but the thinclients that I have used with thier own printers I have managed to set up OK.
I normally logon as an Admin user & Add printer. Choose local printer, but select Create a new port & use standard TCP/IP. Then find the client in client network with the correct port. You will then need to add the driver.
This is from memory, but I think I have got things in the right order.

Hi,

On a side note, what version of Neo term are you using, what do you think or them and what are they like for support?

I only ask as we are looking for some and already use the Compaq/Wyse but they use Rapport to update and that's just too overkill and requires too many resources.

I've requested that remote admin is a major factor in our next set of purchases. We are organising a trial of Neoware.

Cheers for any info given,
Carl.

Thanks for your help. I did finally find out my problem yesterday. Apparently, while I had been creating client printers via the Citrix Management Console, I also have to create them in the ICA Client Printer Configuration for them to show up and be recognized.

I also ran into another problem where I received errors in connecting to the printer (once the steps above were complete). The problem was fixed once I accepted the default printer name instead of renaming it to my own convention.

Carl:

While we are on a small network (15-20 users), I personally find that NeoWare comes in very handy and is extremely easy to get running. Most of our users have their own local PC's, but that is because the software they need to run is not very compatible with Citrix.

For support, I don't think I've ever had to fix or trouble-shoot one. The only time I've had to is when moving this one yesterday.

Kestrel1,
You mentioned you setup tcp/ip printers. Is this on CE? Does anyone know how I can let a user print to a network attached printer that is on their external lan from a CE device. I can post a new thread if you are not using CE.

No this isn't CE. We are using Igel thin clients & ThinTune clients that both use Linux & connect through the Linux ICA client that is on chip.
We find these terminals great. The ThinTunes are the latest addition to the network & we have had floppy drives in them so that users can load up thier own documents from home.
The ThinTunes are faster than the older Igel's.
Anyway back to the printers. If you are using an ICA client you should be able to set up a local printer the way I said above. As the drivers are held on the server you are only creating a port for that printer from the client machine. You can only set them up from the client itself, it can't be done remotely.
