Got a wierd printer sharing problem: small network, plugged into a switch, no internet connection. 2 users on each computer, 1 'admin' for control, the other 'user' (a limited a/c) for everyone else.

When logged into 'admin' on a client machine, all computers are visible on the network and printing works fine. However, when logged on as 'user' only a few pc's are accessible, unfortunately not including the one with the printer attached.

I thought this might be a 'limited a/c' problem, so I made the 'user' a/c an Administrator but STILL have the same problem!

WHat is going on?

Many thanks,

Bill.

Is the printer software installed on each machine? A seemingly obvious question but you never know...

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Yes tviman, XP does it for you when u can c the printer on the network.

Thanks bcastner (as always) - I'll give it a go 2morrow.

Haven't had a chance to try it - bern teaching all week, but I have realised that my problem goes a liitle deeper - what I really need to be able to do is allow Users to be able to see the network, access Shared folders etc.

At the moment this is only possible with Admin a/c's for some reason!

Cheers

Yeah, basically I tried your tip adding a printer for all users, this appears to work fine, but when logged into the 'User' a/c you still can't talk to the printer, access is denied. I'm sure this is a 'permissions' problem, but can't seem to find the setting to enable a 'restriced' user to print!

The permissions on the printer itself are set to 'full control' for 'Everyone', is this not enough???

All works fine when logged in as Admin, but I can't let the kids use that!!

CHeers!

Add the users and passwords of Computer A to computer B. Add the users and passwords of Computer B to computer A. And so on, so that the users and passwords of all computers are synchronized.

Hmmm... all the computers have a user called 'admin' and another called 'audiouser'.

'audiouser', the a/c with the problem, is not password protected.

XP does not like blank or empty network passwords. To use them consistently, see my notes: thread779-796583
