I have an old analyzer that has a db25 parallel spp port. It had an old parallel printer connected to it. Is there away that i can make this printer port work with newer printers sense i can not find a spp printer or is there an interface i can use. There is no operating system running on it so i can't run drivers (program in eprom). Factory is no help sense they do not support this unit anymore and of course they want you to buy a newer unit. This one still runs great. Just need a printer. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Jim.

What print capabilities do you need? 80/132, 6/8, pin or sheet feed, single or continuous sheet? Lots of printers around that should work, but also a bunch that won't.

looking for a receipt printer. It will only be printing a 4 to 6 digit number.

Probably would look at Star POS printers. Parallel minimum is 8 bit data, strobe, and ack. The rest can be cobbled up. You might need to get to the interface chips to determine what lines are used on the D connector. Normally 1 is strobe, 2 to 9 as data, and 10 as ack, all 0 volt active, with individual return lines. But since IBM used a 25 pin connector to dummy up a 36 conductor connector there are obviously some wires not run. And all of this is assuming that your parallel port held to IBM standards for connections. Ed Fair
