I have a document that I need to be sure is authentic.. No copies, no scans, etc... I know there's no way to block this but I've done everything I can to ensure against forgeries... And yet thought of nothing I can do to deal with copy machine copies.

Here's my question.. Is there anyway to print something (on your average printer) that would be highlighted in a copy... Like some checks have a very light VOID watermark in the background... a copy emphasises the void.. and instructions are on the checks that if the word VOID is clearly legible, then don't cash it.

Even if there was, I could save your page source locally to my machine, edit the source as necessary, and then print out my revised edition, without your watermark.

hmmmm ... since most printers are essentially copiers this might be difficult....

clflava, I know you could, but its a protection... its something to make it more difficult...

Its just one avenue for a protection...

If anyone thinks up anyway to do this, post it please...

I dont know how you could apply this to a webpage, but here is what I know about check watermarking:

They print "void" on the check with a ir-reflective ink. it reflects the light from the copier's tube, but our eyes dont pick it up.

another technique is to use dot pitch. I am not as sure how they do this one, but I do know that if you get a super high rez scanner you can make copies of things watermarked in this way. These are usually things like bank statements and things, not checks.

search google man....

We'll call your our resident counterfeit consultant. :) :)

Actually, news on this front, I went down to the printer to talk to them about another security method, and they were amazed that their secretary copied a death cert and VOID came out across it... So this is probably a patented method.

I don't think it can be done on the home/small office printer.
Even if it is possible, there are probably royalties to pay.
