Print spooler service keeps quiting on our Windows Server 2003 print server.
We keep getting these error messages:

--------

Catagory: (100)
Event ID: 1000

Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.2.3790.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.3790.0, fault address 0x0003374d.

---------
Application error

Event ID: 1004

Reporting queued error: faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.2.3790.0, faulting module rpcrt4.dll, version 5.2.3790.137, fault address 0x000428e9.
---------

Application error

Fault bucket 107138060.

Our fix for now is to restart the print spooler service. RPC also quit but both start back up easily. Microsoft has some information we are looking at.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think I've ever had those messages. I frequently have the print spooler service stop on my 2k servers, and seem to have narrowed it down to some unnecessary settings being enabled within my HP print drivers. Although your prob may be caused by something completely different.

Are you using a particular make of printer, or is it a mix? Have you tried deleting all the queues and recreating?

You probably need to update a print driver. See if you can relate the DLL's to a specific printer. Then update those drivers...

We recently installed a software package to help us print to Minolta copier/printer from an AS400. After that we started having problems. We have removed the offending software but we are still having problems, just not as often. The print server has all of our printers (30+) on it while we upgrade and migrate to 2003. So when it's down it now affects everyone. Most printers are HP and a few IBM, but until we added the software for Minolta's we didn't have any problems.
I will try deleting the dll's for the Minoltas.
Thanks to both Joseph and Meastaugh1 for their input.
