I have a problem printing to my novell printer. When I looked the Queue had been removed (not sure how) . I have re-added the queue and when I send jobs I can see them lined up in the queue but they are not being directed to the printer. Can someone help me with how to re-direct this queue to the proper printer. Thanks

Are you using NDPS? If so, you need to reasociate the queue with the NDPS Printer so that anything sent to the queue is serviced by the NDPS Printer.

How do you re-associate the queue with the printer?

if it's a q then use nwadmin
check the properties of each object
been years since i did q's but in one of the object - buttom tab show the links

if it's on a jetdirect box then use jetadmin and go to queue - remove and re-add

also retsrt the pserver

on a side note - move to ndps - so much easier - q's were fine in their day but it has passed now - embrace the world of ip and shot the ipx

I have a similiar problem - having recently taken over as Network Manager have discovered printers are set up using a Print Server, queues and Jet Admin rather than NDPS. Last week printing decided to fall over spectacularly (I have over 12 queue based printers) and only half of them are back up with any consistency.

Web jet admin will not work on my PC for some reason (XP fully Service Packed) and the old jetadmin interface I remember from 3 or 4 years ago doesn't seem to be available any more.

Obviously going to move to NDPS in a months time when the place quietens right down.

Any suggestions until then would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Suddenly Web Jet Admin is working - time to strike whilst the iron is hot.

Instead of using Web Jet Admin, use Internet Explorer and type in the IP Address of the printer

Can see the devices under Web Jet Admin. I have one print server running 11 queues assigned to 11 printer objects (all nonNDPS). Can't see a way in Jet Admin to assign those printers to their respective queues without creating an individual print server per queue.

Any wise heads out there with any as I'm beginning to miss the woods for the trees.

Thanks

Bob

The easiest thing for you to do is to go NDPS, however for the short term you can assign an NDPS Printer to service a queue. Then there is no need for the Printer or Print Server objects - you just create a Print Queue and an NDPS Printer and make the NDPS Printer service the Print Queue

Hi,

If the objects were created in NWAdmin to begin with, you can do your assignments within NWAdmin.

Not sure, but you may be able to assign them in NWAdmin either way.

I'll look to install NDPS in a month's time once I've SP'd the server to latest Netware Service Pack. Unfortunately I have to suffer queue based printing for a little while longer yet. Managed yesterday to get everything back all printer's and queues assigned, however, some printers are showing as not connected in Print Layout (nonNDPS). May need to reset the Jet Direct cards or printers to factory defaults and try to reassign them. Funny thing is I can ping the cards from my workstation.

Don't you just love I.T.???

Bob

It's not really that funny.. Queue based printing doesn't use IP, so a ping is not a really good test. It uses IPX/SPX.

If I remember queue based printing (it's been a while), it's normal for the layout to be hosed up when using Jet Directs...

But like mentioned above, for all the hassles you've gone through to set it up again, you could have had NDPS done and working.
