Print job is ready and waiting for the print server

A large (150 page pdf) print job was sent to a queue, which sent the job to the printer (only printer in that queue), which printed about 30 pages of the total, then gave up... Since then any job sent to this printer will show (through pconsole):

"Print job is ready and waiting for the print server"

Looking at the print server shows its unavailable. How can I restart or reinit the print server/queue?

thanks in advance

What kind of print server are you running? A jet direct? Or a PC using nprint? That is what you restart. For Jet directs I usually unplug the power for 10 seconds then plug it back in. On a pc running nprint, restart the pc, then nprint.
Also double check that the print queue and server and printer relationships are still correct.

The message indicates the Novell "print server". The actual printer (Mita Kyocera KM-6230) is plugged into a netgear switch which then goes to one of our main Intel 510 switches. There is no physical printserver involved. I have already cycled power on both the printer and the netgear switch.

Maybe I'm missing something here but some device has to manage the print jobs for the printer does it not? Either a "JetDirect" type device (which can be built in the printer)or a PC running nprint (old style). Of course I have not used NDPS yet, maybe you don't need one that way.

I am assuming this printer has it built in. Just powering it down does not necessarily clear the jetdirect IO settings. Print out the configuration page on the printer and see what Novell Queue it is servicing and whether it has a good connection. Sometimes you have to clear its configuration and redo it. It is usually holding down some button then powering it on.

They way I think of "Print queues" and "Print servers" and such is that the queue is the folder on the file server where the print job gets put in to. The "server" is the device which looks for the print jobs on the file server, and then sends them to the printer when it finds them.

if there is no jetd box or a built in axis or jetdirect and it's not connected to a pc acting as a pserver or ip host then you must be running a pserver somewhere

on the server there will be a crppy looking screen saying print server

it will be in the autoexec.ncf as something like pserver ".print.finance.tree"

Ok, by powering the switch and printer the situation has been resolved. Yes, the server is running NetWare Print Server 5.00, being loaded in the autoexec.ncf as pserver.

Thanks for your suggestions!
