A Lotus 123 Application prints a report from a Dos workstation. The workstation is logged into NT 4.0 SP6 network. The job does is cued in the server but does not print. Print any other job that works well through the Dos client and both jobs print. It seems the second print job pushes the original print job through to the printer. The printer is an HP 4000 N Laser Jet printer. How do I get the intitial job to print in a timely manner? This client also would like to use the print screen function from the Dos workstation. This print job also hangs in the print cue. These jobs will eventually print on their own, but it might be an hour later. The delay is not due to other print jobs.

It's a function of the 'net use' for the LPT port. The other applications know how to 'release' the job, but 123 and the print-screen don't timeout properly. You can un-use the LPT1 and re-use it to release the job. I think there might also be a 'timeout' parameter. It's been about 7 years since I've done DOS networking...

Any suggestions how to unuse the LPT! and ReUse it to release the job. I am using a batch file to print a lotus report, and then executing a command to print reports from a software called Quality Monitor. The batch file fails between the Lotus print command and the command to print the Quality Monitor job.

net use [{DeviceName}] /delete

or

net use [*] /delete to remove all shared connections

batch file would probably be

Code:
net use LPT1 /delete
net use LPT1 //ntserver/printer
copy file.txt lpt1

(please correct my syntax if it is wrong)

or similar

has a full listing of net use syntax and help
