Print Auditing

I need to collect data on print jobs as they are printed. I want to dump info into a txt file each time a job prints e.g. printername username and number of pages.

I know you can do this in event viewer but isn't easy to query.

A script should do it, but don't know if it is possible to initiate at the point a job is printed.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.
